How The Exam Happens
This is not like our college exam. It is a bit long. There are three big steps you must cross to become an officer. First is the Preliminary Exam. We call it the First Paper. It has multiple choice questions. You have to tick the right answer. If you fail this you cannot give the written exam.
| Phase | Exam Name | Marks | Type |
| Phase 1 | Preliminary Exam (GK, IQ, English) | 100 Marks | Tick Mark (MCQ) |
| Phase 2 | Written Exams (Three Papers) | 300 Marks | Subjective Writing |
| Phase 3 | Skill Test & Interview | 70 Marks | Computer Test & Talking |
What Do You Have To Study
The syllabus is huge. You have to study many things. For the first phase you need General Knowledge like history, geography, and science. You also need IQ to solve math puzzles. And there is a small English test too.
For the written exam it is different. You have to write long answers.
| Paper | Subject Name | What is inside? |
| First Paper | General Awareness & Aptitude | GK of Nepal and World, IQ test, Basic English |
| Second Paper | Governance System | Constitution, Rights, Law, How government works |
| Third Paper | Contemporary Issues | Society problems, Economy, Development, Environment |
| Fourth Paper | Service Related | Staff management, Public service rules, Accounts |
Fees and Money
Applying for this job is not free. You have to pay money to the government. The fee is a little high. If you apply for just the Open category it is cheaper. But if you apply for Women or Madhesi or Dalit quota also you have to pay extra money for each group.
| Category | Fee Amount (Estimated) |
| Standard Open Fee | Rs. 1,200 |
| Extra for Inclusive Group | Rs. 400 per group |
| Payment Method | ConnectIPS or Bank Voucher |
Why This Job Is Hard
I will not lie to you. This exam is very tough. Thousands of people apply for only a few hundred seats. You have to study for 10 to 12 hours every day. The GK section is tricky because they ask anything from anywhere. The IQ questions take time. And in the written paper your handwriting and speed matter a lot. If you write slow you will miss questions. But if you prepare well you can do it. Many simple students from villages have cracked this exam. You just need patience.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

No, you cannot. You must have your transcript or at least a document saying you passed before the last date of the vacancy. If you are waiting for the result you have to wait for next year.
